Tru spec knee pads for TRU pad-insertable pants

I'm wondering what type of knee pads I should be looking for. I just picked up my new multicam set (Tru Spec tactical response pants and combat shirt) and intend to add knee pad inserts but I'm not sure if there is any variation in pad types. Is the neoprene type the only option available or is there a hard shell pad also? I have been surfing around online and so far have only seen the neoprene type. I'm ok with not using a hard knee pad, never really liked wearing turtle shell pads anyways but not sure how sturdy the neoprenes are. Any one use them?

It probably sounds like a couple of dumb questions but I just want to get the most out of this uniform. It would be a bonehead move to shell out the extra dough for a good set of camo and then not really max it out.

My opinion on the insert pads is it causes your uniform to go through more wear, unless it's the Crye Precision style uniform that actually has a hard shell that pokes through the uniform on their insert pads.

I think neoprene is the only option, unless you make your own, then you could do it with whatever you wanted.

I use the neoprene pads at my knees and elbows. I absolutely love them. You do get a little more wear at the knees (mainly because you actually take a knee more often).

A nice alternative to kneepads with straps is clip on kneepads, and then you wouldn't have to worry about wear on your uniform.

You could probably make your own inserts from a few layers of foam meat packing tray sandwiched together, if you wanted. Would be cheaper.

Any place local that sells the neoprene inserts? I can order them but hoping to get them inserted before saturday. Wifey has another saturday off so going to try and make it out to play...if my pinion gear arrives in time.

How often do the pads need to be replaced? Is it something that holds up dependent on usage or are they one time use items? I am not a particularly active player compared to most on these forums and don't expect to have to swap them out too often but if I'm going to order them, I'd rather get enough on back up to keep me set for a bit.
